The Black Professionals Network (The BPN) is a social network for black and minority ethnic professionals to connect with each other. We have a vision to inspire excellence amongst black and ethnic minority professionals in the UK. The information we collect about you

Information about you that we may routinely collect are; your name, location, email address, telephone numbers, company you work for, industry and your job title / position. These are updated as and when you inform us of any changes. On occasion, we may also take your photograph at BPN events. If you do not wish for your photograph to be taken during events, you can opt out by informing our events stewards upon arrival for the event.

How your personal information is collected

We collect your personal information directly from you when you become a member of The BPN. You may also choose to provide your personal data to us;

We take your privacy seriously and we will only collect and use your personal information if it is necessary, fair and lawful to do so. We will collect and use your information only if we are able to satisfy one of the lawful processing conditions set out in the data protection laws.

We will use the information that you have given us for the administration of your membership, the communication of information and the organisation of events. We may communicate with you using email address, phone calls, text messaging and ‘Whatsapp’ messaging. We may use your photograph taken at events on our website, social media and in literatures.

Disclosure of your personal information to and use third parties

We treat all personal information as strictly confidential. Your personal data will not be shared or disclosed to third parties unless;

  • We are legally obliged to do so or:
  • It is necessary to protect our rights, property or safety of our members.

Where your information is processed

Information you provide to The Black Professionals Network is processed in the UK.

Data Security

The security of your personal information is very important to us and have therefore implemented reasonable and appropriate security measures to guard against unauthorised or unlawful processing of your personal information and accidental loss, destruction or damage.

In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those members and volunteers who have a need to know for administration, communication purpose and the organisation of events.

They are subject to a duty of confidentiality and will only process your personal data for the purpose for which your data was collected.

How long we keep your personal data

We keep this information for as long as you remain a member of the BPN. All your personal information will be deleted as soon as you withdraw your membership or you are no longer a member unless we have a legal obligation to retain it.

You have rights as an individual which you can exercise in relation to the personal information, we hold about you. You can exercise your right to:

  • Request access to, and deletion or correction of, information about you
  • Object to the way in which we use information about you
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy about the way we use information about you

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.

We may need to update or make changes to our Privacy Notice from time to time, so please check our website periodically for updates to make sure that you are familiar with the most current version. If we make substantial changes; we will contact you to let you know.
